Health Institute at Hardy
We offer a unique career-connected learning opportunity known as the Health Institute at Hardy (HIH), led by Mastery Schools and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and supported by the Healthcare Career-Connected Learning Initiative, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies. This innovative initiative aims to equip students with the knowledge, experience, confidence, skills, credentials, and connections they need to succeed in healthcare, making in-demand, well-paying careers accessible after graduation while providing access to internships in high school. Career pathways associated with the program include clinical care, hospital operations, and healthcare administration.
We offer rigorous, engaging, and relevant coursework, along with career-connected learning opportunities that emphasize real-world applications and experiences. Our approach ensures that students are aware of all of the options available to them, helps them discover their passions, and provides a solid foundation for their future success.

Every Mastery school has a dedicated school culture team that is responsible for ensuring a positive and safe school community. Our schools observe common rituals, such as morning circles, community meetings, and school events that celebrate the school community and the joy of learning. We also ensure that school rules and values are consistently supported and enforced. Our teachers adopt standard school-wide classroom behavior systems, ensuring that students are held to consistently high expectations. We intentionally create a community that strikes a balance between structure and student independence, allowing schools to feel both orderly and joyful. “My favorite part about participating in the Health Institute at Hardy program was doing things I never imagined I would do before. It was full of new experiences, such as charting vital signs, taking blood pressure, and gaining a feel for working in healthcare. I want to go to college to study health sciences because the program opened my eyes to a new world of possibilities.” – Jeremiah Previlus, Alum
