New teachers and leaders in the Mastery network share positive feedback about their experiences

In the spirit of continuous improvement, Mastery’s Talent Team interviewed over 100 teachers and leaders new to the network this fall to learn about their hiring and onboarding experience.

Results were overwhelmingly positive, with more than 85% of new teachers agreeing or strongly agreeing that they felt prepared, welcomed, and supported in their new roles and were happy about their decision to work at Mastery. And it doesn’t stop there – 100% of new leaders agreed or strongly agreed that they feel valued in their school communities, supported by NST partners, and grateful to mentors for advancing their career development.

New teachers highlighted in their own words the stand-out pros of working at Mastery, sharing feedback like, “The Mastery Staff Institute was super useful and purposeful – I felt respected as a professional and like my time was valued.” And, “I feel supported here. Leaders are available to help and guide you to a solution rather than micromanage.” And new leaders spoke about the importance of collaboration and teamwork, saying, “I love how our team supports each other and provides whatever resources are needed. We all make each other feel like it is not just one person’s responsibility.” And, “My NST person is amazing! She is a thought partner who helps me establish routines and keeps me grounded in the work. I appreciate her presence and couldn’t have made it this year without her support.”

These outcomes reflect the incredible effort led by the Talent Team to continue expanding and improving onboarding structures and mentoring support for new hires across the network. Key improvements from the last year include enhancing week-long summer training, increasing mentor support, differentiating training based on years of experience for new teachers, and adding a formal assistant principal mentor program for new leaders.
