Rana Shariatdoust serves as the Deputy Chief of Student Development for Mastery Schools. In this role, she leads initiatives integrating school culture, social-emotional learning, academic development, discipline, attendance, and student joy across Mastery’s network. She leads a team that provides direct support and coaching to school culture leaders, develops intervention models to address chronic absenteeism and behavior management, and implements systems to strengthen school culture across all Mastery schools.
Before this role, Shariatdoust served as the senior director of school culture, where she led the redesign of the network’s approach to chronic absenteeism, resulting in significant decreases in students missing more than 10% of school. Her work ensured that students facing systemic challenges receive tiered support to help them thrive. She has also served as the director of school culture.
Shariatdoust started her career in Philadelphia as a Teach For America corps member, teaching math, and later transitioned to a dean of students. She joined Mastery as an assistant principal of instruction at Hardy Williams High School, where she developed and implemented data-driven strategies to improve student outcomes. She later transitioned to the role of assistant principal of school culture, driving attendance and behavior interventions for students during the pandemic closures. Shariatdoust brings comprehensive experience in urban education, school leadership, and student development.
Beyond her work at Mastery, Shariatdoust has held leadership positions within Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority Incorporated, including serving on the Board of Directors as the director of leadership development and director of parliamentary procedures. In these roles, she curated leadership development sessions for board leaders, structured governance procedures, and facilitated strategic planning for the organization. She also facilitated annual leadership retreats, standardized risk management, and judicial processes to strengthen the organization’s operational effectiveness.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science with minors in economics and business from The College of New Jersey and a master’s degree in urban education from The University of Pennsylvania. She was also a PLUS (Pathway to Leadership in Urban Schools) Fellow, a selective leadership development and principal preparation program. Shariatdoust is currently enrolled at Yale University’s School of Management through The Broad Center, furthering her expertise in education leadership and systems transformation.
