Erik Zipay - Mastery Schools

Erik “Zip” Zipay is the proud principal of Simon Gratz High School. Before taking the role, Principal Zipay spent more than 20 years serving the Simon Gratz community in various roles, including teacher, dean of students, assistant principal, coach, and athletic director. His deep commitment to impact and service in the North Philadelphia community has been a driving force throughout his tenure. 

The Pottstown, Pennsylvania, native credits his upbringing for shaping his strong work ethic and leadership style. He believes in striving to be the person he needed when he was a young student. Under his leadership, the school has fostered a strong sense of community, setting a high bar for student success. Principal Zipay graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree from Walden University, and an additional master’s degree from Robert Morris University. 

Outside of school, Principal Zipay is a devoted family man to his wife, Jaqueline, and three children, Pepper, Poppy, and Rocco. The diehard Philadelphia sports fan enjoys cheering his students on, both on and off the field.
