Charmaine Giles serves as Deputy Chief Academic Officer of NJ Programming for Mastery Schools. In her role, Giles oversees the academic programming of Mastery’s Camden schools and supports the development of the academic vision, curriculum, instruction, coaching, and professional learning for Camden staff.
Throughout her career in education, Giles has nurtured a deep commitment to teaching, learning, and fostering pedagogical practices grounded in social justice and student‑centered learning. She began her career at Mastery as a 6th-grade English Language Arts teacher at Smedley Elementary. In the years following, she became the assistant principal of instruction and principal at McGraw Elementary. During her tenure as a school-based leader, she led initiatives where she oversaw the implementation of culturally responsive practices, established data-driven instructional cycles, and boosted student achievement.
In recent years, Giles has coached principals and top-performing educators nationwide through the Transformative Leaders of Massachusetts Fellowship program, Burn‑In Mindset, and as a faculty member and advisor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. Giles holds a bachelor’s degree from Swarthmore College and a master’s from the University of Pennsylvania.
