Ashley Baldwin, Ed.D., serves as the Chief Academic Officer for Mastery Schools. In this role, she guides the network’s academic vision, overseeing critical areas, including curriculum, instruction, coaching, and professional learning for network staff, to drive positive outcomes for all students.
Before her promotion to the role, Dr. Baldwin served as one of the network’s Regional School Officers (RSO), where she managed a quarter of the network’s elementary and high schools across Philadelphia and Camden, and previously served as the deputy chief academic officer of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) contributing to organizational strategic planning while driving Mastery’s vision and approach for STEM instructional quality. Under her leadership as RSO, the schools she managed saw accelerated student achievement and growth across various indicators ranging from MAP Reading Fluency, PSSA, NJGPA, and Keystone assessments, exceeding pre-pandemic academic achievement and growth measures, with several schools and metrics doubling prior performance, obtaining double-digit improvements, and approaching state averages in just 4 years. Her experience also includes serving as the director of K-12 math and as an assistant principal of instruction at Mastery Mann Elementary. Her work in both roles yielded significant gains in student achievement: Mann saw double-digit gains in math and science PSSA scores, and the network’s Math MAP Growth data also showed double-digit gains.
Before joining the Mastery Schools network in 2014, Dr. Baldwin served as the dean of students at Young Scholars Kenderton Charter School in Philadelphia and taught middle school math at Lady Liberty Academy Charter School in Newark, New Jersey. Dr. Baldwin holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, a master’s degree from the University of Michigan, and a doctorate in educational and organizational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.
