The Health Institute at Hardy is officially live

The Health Institute at Hardy (HIH) is gearing up for an exciting first year. The program, developed through a partnership between Mastery Schools and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, officially launched in August.

During the annual Hardy Williams Back-to-School BBQ held in September, families enjoyed guided tours of the school’s newly renovated classrooms, where state-of-the-art lab equipment and technology were showcased. Attendees also had the chance to learn about various career pathways and resources available through CHOP. Information tables were staffed by experts and students who participated in the program’s spring dual enrollment pilot, which resulted in ten job offers for Hardy Williams seniors graduating in the class of 2025.

The facility upgrades at Hardy Williams High School are designed to enable innovative learning on-site. These improvements include the installation of a certified medical assistant (CMA) lab modeled after CHOP’s Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pediatric Care Center in West Philadelphia the addition of a sterile processing lab that replicates hospital-level infection control standards, allowing students to gain firsthand experience in the hospital operations pathway, and the introduction of new technological infrastructure to support students studying healthcare administration as they develop the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in information technology.
