David Howze, a dean at Smedley Elementary, understands the importance of recruiting high-impact staff to join our network. “I love coming to work and being surrounded by professional individuals who are working tirelessly to accomplish a common goal – and that goal is to help children,” he said. Referring great candidates is an act of service that significantly impacts how we support students to thrive and foster professionals to grow. “Anyone who comes into this organization and is seeking growth will get it here because we are all gardeners. We nurture one another,” Howze said. 

He has referred several individuals to Mastery and notes that it has been rewarding to connect outstanding people with new opportunities. Remembering an encounter with an old friend who was looking for their next career opportunity, he shares that he decided to submit a referral. “That opportunity took that person’s journey—from hourly to salaried, from stagnant to magnet, from mediocre to meteoric,” he said.
