New teachers share how peers have supported their integration into the Mastery community
Here at Mastery Schools, we understand that creating an ideal educational environment requires a strong partnership between staff, students, and families. We are proud to employ more than 1,000 educators who boast diverse personal and professional backgrounds, some coming to us as education veterans, while others are new to the field, but all are excited to contribute to student success.
Committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement, the Mastery Talent Team surveyed newly hired teachers about their transition into the network this fall, covering hiring, onboarding, and integration into the school community. The results presented a positive picture of new teachers’ experiences: 90% reported feeling supported, welcomed, and prepared by their assigned teacher mentor, and 90% were happy with their decision to work at Mastery Schools.
Additionally, over 80% of respondents reported feeling comfortable asking questions and requesting support from their School Leadership Team; this reaffirms our open door value, prioritizing honest and transparent feedback to ensure staff success. New teachers highlighted the alignment among the hiring, onboarding, and implementation processes, noting that staff at every level have made themselves available as resources.
A history teacher described Mastery as a “breath of fresh air,” citing that the “structure, high expectations, and consistency” make coming to work an enjoyable experience. Teachers will continue to be supported as they lead, teach, and grow through year one and beyond. They receive ample skill-development opportunities, an annual stipend to continue their education, and allocated time throughout the school year to participate in data analysis, planning, and learning with colleagues.
