Murphy Shouts Out Camden Mastery School’s COVID-19 Testing Efforts

by Steven Rodas

CAMDEN, NJ — Testing for COVID-19 has been at top of mind for many in the Camden community and the Garden State at large with more people at risk now that the second wave is in full effect.

Gov. Phil Murphy said so during his Monday coronavirus press briefing, stopping early on to give a special shout out to Mastery Schools’ efforts in Camden City.

“Record numbers of people are contracting COVID and thousands are dying every single day across our country…So while we fight on this front, we are also continuing to ensure the testing program we need to map out the battle lines here in New Jersey. There were more than 400 testing sites available across our state, and you could find one by going to that website covid19.nj.gov/testing. There are several additional pop up sites where you can go as well,” Murphy said. “[In the] great city of Camden, testing will be available at the Mastery Charter Schools, McGraw Elementary…starting next Monday.”

The free testing will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21. The elementary school is located at 3051 Fremont Ave. in Camden.

“Mastery McGraw Elementary is so grateful that Governor Murphy amplified the availability of COVID testing at our school,” Kerry Woodward, Mastery’s Deputy Chief of Institutional Advancement, told TAPinto Camden on Wednesday. “In addition to educating 340 amazing students, we’re always eager to support the broader East Camden community. We’re proud to offer this vital service on our campus over the next 4 weeks.”
