School Hosts ‘Back to School Jam’ to Highlight Honor

CAMDEN, NJ — Mastery’s Cramer Hill Elementary School has earned a prestigious national honor, recently named a “2022 Blue Ribbon Beacon School” by a distinguished national nonprofit educational assessment organization.

The renaissance school’s award comes from the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence (BRSE), which conducts a comprehensive assessment of schools from predominantly challenged socioeconomic, culturally diverse, and low-performing communities. It closely reviews the quality of academic instruction and student achievement.

To achieve the Blue Ribbon honor, Cramer Hill Elementary School – with nearly 750 students in kindergarten through 8th grade – earned high ratings in leadership and educational vitality, school organization and culture, technology integration, student focus and support, and providing its students with challenging curriculum standards.

To highlight its national recognition, the Cramer Hill school will kick off its new school year at 10:30 a.m. Monday with an indoor school festival. There will be a free school supply giveaway for youngsters, and parents and pupils will get a chance to meet the school’s staff and community leaders.

Principal Jessie Gismondi will also unveil a special 2022 Blue Ribbon Beacon banner at Monday’s “Back to School Jam” in the school’s North 17th Street auditorium.

Set to attend Monday’s festivities are Meredith Howell Turner, a former Mastery school principal who is now deputy chief of the Camden City School District; Rev. Ernest Grant II, pastor of Accelerate Church in Cherry Hill; Miguel Arriaga, owner of Miguel’s Pharmacy; county police Deputy Chief Janell Simpson and police Capt. Brandon Kearsy.

Mastery oversees four other renaissance schools in Camden including the McGraw and Molina Upper/Lower Elementary Schools; East Camden Middle School and Mastery High School of Camden, the McGraw and Molina. It also operates 14 schools in Philadelphia.

The award will be presented to Mastery at the BRSE National Conference, Nov. 29 to Dec. 2, at Walt Disney World’s Yacht Club Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
