Mastery Votes 2024: Empowering students and families through civic engagement

Mastery Schools is proud to announce the success of the 2024 Mastery Votes campaign, aimed at educating, engaging, and empowering students, staff, and family members from across our network to cast their ballots in this year’s historic presidential election.

At the heart of the Mastery Votes campaign is the belief that every person deserves a voice in our democracy. The goals for this year’s campaign were to register 500 new voters, including eligible students, educate all Mastery families on the importance of voting, and conduct outreach to at least 3,000 Mastery households in the process.

Thanks to the dedication of our academic and advocacy teams and the enthusiastic participation of our students, parents, and volunteers, we are thrilled to report a massive success across all fronts. This year, we achieved our campaign goals, reaching thousands of families, securing voter registrations, and fostering a community of civically active voters.

Campaign Impact

Family Outreach: A total of 186 student, family and staff volunteers contacted thousands of eligible voters, making 2,400 calls to provide Mastery families with critical information about casting their ballots in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This included sharing information about voter registration, the early and mail-in voting process, and transportation to the polls.

Voter Registration: Through in-person outreach and targeted phone banking, Mastery Schools registered more than 500 new voters, including 265 students. The population of student registrants makes up nearly 80% of all students who were eligible to vote. This achievement marks an important step toward preparing students for life after graduation from Mastery.

“The heart of Mastery Votes is parents, students, and staff stepping up, not just to exercise their own right to vote, but volunteering and reaching out to others to encourage them to vote,” says Mastery Schools Deputy Chief of External Strategy Ceci Schickel. “Communities that have chronically low voter turnout are often disenfranchised and underrepresented in multiple ways. Mastery Votes seeks to change that.”

The success of the Mastery Votes campaign highlights the values of our community. With each new voter registered and every family reached, we worked as One Team to produce confident and engaged voters. We look forward to seeing our new student voters, families, and staff civically engage in meaningful ways that shape their communities – now and in the future.
