Mastery High School of Camden students forge paths to success through Career Pathways Program

At Mastery Schools, students are encouraged to pursue postsecondary pathways of their choice, whether a two—or four-year college, a trade school, the armed forces, or direct entry into the workforce. For Mastery High School of Camden (MHSC) students interested in direct entry into the workforce,  a specialized development program is preparing them to work in fields with career longevity and family-sustaining wages.

MHSC’s Career Pathways Program provides seniors with real-world experience through internships and dual enrollment opportunities with local organizations. In October, students committed to working with organizations during the school’s third-annual Workforce Signing Day.  The impressive lineup of partner organizations students are working with this year includes:

  • The Michaels Organization
  • ResinTech
  • Camden County Municipal Authorities (CCMUA)
  • Hopeworks
  • Social Responsibility Through Me
  • Bayada Nurse for Home Health Aide Internships
  • Eastern Atlantic States
  • Regional Council of Carpenters
  • Camden City Council Office
  • Virtua Health
  • Green Family Estates
  • Camden County College – Automotive
  • American Training Center
  • Mastery High School of Camden Operations Office
  • Thornton Security 2.0 (Police academy and security officer training)

“This program is about more than just securing a job,” says Ana Ramirez, Career Pathway Advisor at MHSC. “It’s about empowering our students with the skills, confidence, and connections they need to thrive in the workforce and beyond.”

Beyond internships, the Career Pathways Program helps students develop crucial soft skills, obtain state identification, and open bank accounts to ensure a smooth transition from high school into the professional world.

Alexa Martinez, a senior at MHSC, is working with The American Training Center to gain skills in the Medical Assistant track. “I am excited that my school provides such a program to help students like me get certificates in their career path before exiting high school and that it enables me to  do it for free.” Martinez has aspirations to pursue a career in the medical field after graduation and believes what she’s learning now will help her succeed in a nursing career.

Kim Rommen, President of the American Training Center, is excited to see young people interested in healthcare careers. “ There are so many good jobs out there—so much career growth and opportunity. It really excites me to see people learning about these fields this young,” she says. Students working with the American Training Center will gain all the skills necessary to work in a doctor’s office or laboratory, carrying out clinical and administrative duties.

MHSC’s Career Pathways Program exemplifies Mastery’s commitment to ensuring students gain the personal and academic skills they need to succeed and pursue their dreams after graduation. Many MHSC students have successfully transitioned into full-time positions with their partner organizations after graduation, a number we expect to grow over the years as the program continues to expand.
