Breakfast with Boyd: A recipe for family academic partnerships
In October, Mastery Schools kicked off another series of Breakfast with Boyd events, with the goal of visiting all Mastery elementary schools by January.
Breakfast with Boyd events are designed to build strong partnerships between families and schools. Over coffee and breakfast fare at McGraw Elementary, Boyd emphasized the critical role families play in student achievement, saying, “While our staff are the experts in education, families are the experts in their children. By working together, we can ensure every Mastery student thrives.”
Boyd also seized this time with parents to share more about Mastery’s five-year strategic plan, which is designed to propel the network forward with a focus on academic rigor, family engagement, and college and career pathways and encourage parents to join Mastery’s Parent Action Team, which empowers families to play an active role in advocating for their students and communities.

Exemplifying Mastery’s values of joy and humor, some schools added extra fun to the mix by offering parent bingo and other activities after insightful conversations. This provided parents with the opportunity to connect and strengthen the sense of community within schools.
