Blog: Master Teacher Spotlight on Nicole Thiemann

Nicole teaches pre-calculus and algebra II at Mastery Thomas Campus.

Over the weekend you can catch her bike riding, spending time with her wife and children, or indulging in a DIY project – like a rock climbing wall for her kids or an outdoor patio.

Although Nicole never thought that she would want to be inside of a classroom, a volunteer opportunity during her senior year of college for an after school program changed her perspective. While she enjoyed the work that she was doing, she felt the need to make a greater impact. “I couldn’t effect change enough,” Nicole said.

She decided to go back to school to obtain her Masters in Education, and through word-of-mouth learned about an opening at Mastery Lenfest Campus. From there she transferred to Thomas Campus, “and here I am, 13 years later.” Nicole added jokingly.

In addition to teaching math, she is the creator and instructor of the Engineering electives. They’ve competed in the Bucks County Soap Box Derby and last month the group designed, created, and assembled four playhouses at our schools in Philly and Camden!

“One of the things that keeps me really enjoying my job is that we have electives,” Nicole explains. “I love teaching math but my favorite hour of the day is our Engineering class. It gives me a chance to introduce the students to something that I have as an interest, and to see them excel outside of the classroom.”
