Established in 2001 as Renaissance Advantage Charter School, Hardy Williams Academy was renamed in 2009 to honor the late Senator Hardy Williams. In 2010, in response to lagging student achievement, Hardy Williams Academy partnered with Mastery Charter Schools and became Hardy Williams Academy Mastery Charter School. In its first year as a Mastery school, Hardy Williams achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and significantly expanded extracurricular opportunities for students including robust performing arts programming.
Hardy Williams expanded to high school in 2012, and will grow into a full Kindergarten through 12th grade school in the 2015-2016 academic year. As the only K-12 Mastery school, Hardy Williams families have the unique opportunity to watch their students grow throughout their academic career as part of the Hardy Williams school community.
In 2014, Mastery purchased the Shaw Middle School building from the School District of Philadelphia. After significant renovations and upgrades, Hardy Williams relocated to the Shaw Building in January of 2015. With the increased space in the renovated building, Hardy Williams Academy accommodates our K-12 students along with rising 9th graders from Mastery Charter Harrity Elementary school.
