Your Neighborhood School in Germantown

Pastorius-Richardson is a neighborhood elementary school serving over 630 students and their families in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Pastorius-Richardson is a special place where your child will experience the joy of learning in a safe, positive environment.

We focus on 5 core values: respect, responsibility, hard work, teamwork and kindness.

Students who attend Pastorius-Richardson Elementary have the opportunity to automatically attend our Simon Gratz Campus for 9th – 12th grade, giving them a full K-12 Mastery experience.

From music to art to field trips – Pastorius-Richardson students take part in a well-rounded education.  We work closely with our families to ensure Pastorius-Richardson is a place where every child loves to learn.

Our School

  • Students come to school excited to start their day.  
  • The day starts with free breakfast.
  • Students are greeted by their teacher and head to their classroom for morning meeting.  
  • We value reading.  Students have at least 2-3 hours of reading where they work in small groups with the teacher.  
  • Students have classes in math, social studies, and science.
  • Students head back to the cafeteria to enjoy free lunch.
  • Afterwards, students enjoy free play or structured recess.
  • Students engage in physical education, music or foreign language. We are proud to educate the whole child at Mastery.
  • Once the school day is over, students may stay to participate in clubs.

  • Pastorius-Richardson uniforms are available for purchase at Smile Kiddie Shop 123 Chelten Ave, Philadelphia, Pa 19144. Feel free to call (215) 843-3424 to check store hours before arriving. Shirts can also be purchased at any Flynn O’Hara Uniform location.
  • At Pastorius-Richardson, students in grades K-6 wear a blue polo with the Mastery logo. Students in grades 7-8 wear a grey polo with the Mastery logo. All students may wear navy or black bottoms and the shoes of their choice.

Pastorius-Richardson Elementary serves students in the Germantown community who live in the school’s attendance zones within the zip codes of 19144 and 19138. 

The school cannot enroll students living outside of its attendance zone, even if they reside within the listed 19144 and 19138 zip codes.

Ashley Anderson, Principal

Ashley Anderson is the proud Principal of Pastorius-Richardson Mastery Charter School. Mrs. Anderson began her educational career at Mastery Charter Schools as a fifth grade teacher at Hardy Williams Academy Mastery Charter School in 2010. Mrs. Anderson spent six years teaching at Hardy Williams as a fifth, fourth and sixth grade teacher before accepting her first Assistant Principal role at Pastorius-Richardson Mastery Charter School in 2016. Over the past six years, Mrs. Anderson has worked alongside of students, teachers and families as the Assistant Principal of Instruction at Pastorius. This year marks her eleventh year at Mastery and her sixth year at Pastorius.

Ashley Anderson’s educational philosophy is based on her uncompromising belief that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment, strong and knowledgeable leadership, a committed and focused educational team, an encouraging community, and a supportive family. All of which, Pastorius-Richardson Mastery Charter School possess.

Mrs. Anderson received a Bachelor’s Degree with dual certifications in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from California University of PA in 2009. She returned to Saint Joseph’s University where she earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Reading Specialist Certification. After several years of teaching, she pursued her Principal Certification through TNTP’s grant funded program Philly PLUS (Pathway to Urban Leadership), which she obtained in 2017.

Outside of school. Mrs. Anderson loves spending time with her family, cheering on Philadelphia sports teams, exploring new places and trying new foods.
