Last fall, a student’s house was destroyed in a devastating fire and the student was severely burned. The student’s family was greatly helped by the organization Need in Deed. Since 1987, Need in Deed has used the classroom to prepare young people for civic responsibility and service to others through service learning.
Under Clymer’s Ann Daly’s leadership, Need in Deed worked with that student’s class on fire safety. The students have welcomed a team from the Burn Unit at St. Christopher’s Hospital, a representative from the Burn Foundation and a fire fighter into their classroom. Now, students are working on a project to help children in the burn unit and they hope to make some homemade cookies for their local fire engine company.
It is inspiring to see this beautiful partnership rise out of a tragedy.
